Today we have a very special guest, my best friend and author, Darah Lace! She's celebrating her newest release from Ellora's Cave, a delicious little morsel called Yes, Master.
Now, Darah claims to be boring but she's anything but, and her writing is every bit as hot and spicy as she is. She's just a little shy. So I told her to bring a little something to share with the class and you'd all chat with her. That's why she's giving away a digital copy of any of her back list books! So read through the interview, get to know my bestest buddy, and then you can check out her newest while earning a chance to win a spicy back list book! Yay!
~Mia
Coffee, tea or…what’s your vice?
Coffee? Blech. Tea? Double Blech. Or…how about a hottie with delicious pecs to lick? Now that’s more like it.
Favorite Movie:
<sigh> There are so many. But oddly, I love Sense & Sensibility. It’s romantic and sweet and moving…yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. But I love it despite the lack of hot and sweaty sex.
Favorite Color:
I used to say black but then I learned it wasn’t a color. Purple soothes my soul.
Favorite book/author:
Again, a difficult choice, but I have to stick with The Marriage Bed by Stephanie Mittman. It’s old and tattered but it will forever be on my bookshelf. I read it recently and it still stole my breath and all the productive hours of my day.
How do you feel about bacon?
Love everything about it!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m boring as hell, which is why I live vicariously through my characters. In real life, I’m a mom, a wife, a lover, a friend, a bookkeeper, a banker, a chauffeur, a counselor, an artist, and a writer.
What’s under your bed?
Blankets, baby clothes and accessories that I can’t part with, oh, and a Nintendo 64…one of the first units. And if you count the drawers under my bed (the mattress sits on a pedestal of drawers and cabinets) as “under”…well, you might find a few…toys. Use your imagination…ha, where’s the soap to wash a few of those dirty minds?
What comes first, plot or characters?
Sometimes the characters, sometimes the plot. With Yes, Master, it was a combination. I knew the plot and the characters I needed to fit the plot. I just didn’t know who they were. With my current WIP, End Of His Rope (working title), I knew the characters because this is Evan’s story. He was already introduced in Saddle Broke and Bucking Hard and his character is very well defined. Finding a story for him has been difficult. Finding a heroine even more so. He’s so special and he needs a special woman. Still working on that.
Pantser, plotter, or hybrid? Tell us about your writing process.
Hybrid? I can’t stand being forced into a plotted out book. I feel trapped. That and I get bored if the story is told. But I like to know the characters before I start and where I’m headed. Everything in the middle is left to the exciting moment of discovery.
Oddest thing on your desk?
Hmm, three baseballs? My son’s homerun balls from his career in the minor league.
What’s your favorite thing about the genre you write in?
Heh, heh, heh. (rubs hands together) I get to have hot, sweaty, kinky sex with a strange but gorgeous man without the risk of getting pregnant, getting some awful disease, or getting caught.
What is the hardest thing about being an author?
Answering questions about my writing process. Hence the only question I’ve skipped so far.
What’s the easiest thing about being an author?
Tell us about your latest release!
Yes, Master is a morsel of decadence that will whet your appetite for whips, bondage and a Master of your own.
Tara Sherwood never dreamed she’d let a man put her in chains, call her pet and spank her into submission, or that she’d derive pleasure from punishment. But her future hangs in the balance and the choice is simple—walk away or kneel at the Master’s feet.

Awesome, Nova! I'll thank Em for spreading the word.
It's great getting to know you, Darah. You sound like fun...except for not loving coffee. But, I guess that means more for me. ;) Yes, Master sounds interesting! I added it to my TBR list (to keep a few others by you company). Thanks for the great post, Mia!
Hi Darah! Congrats on your latest release! Isn't it fun that we can be as exciting as we want in fiction even if our everyday lives are a bit ho-hum?
Hi Kim! You can have all the coffee you want, though you'll have to fight Mia for it.
LOL Nona, yeah, I think I'd go insane otherwise.
I LOVE Bacon! LOL. I was introduced to Dara through a contest and won one of her books, LOVED it. so I'll check out more of her stuff.. Oh and I don't like coffee either, but I will drink some coffee flavored drinks. Looking forward to next book.

Hi Tiss, glad you enjoyed the read. I tried coffee flavored ice cream, thinking there couldn't be any ice cream I wouldn't love. Nope, couldn't do it. Blech.
Heading to bed now but I'll announce the winner in the morning. Night-night!
Thank you, ladies, for playing with me yesterday. I enjoyed talking to friends and meeting a few new ones. Have a great week!
And the winner is........Elaine! Please take a look at my backlist on my web site (www.darahlace.com) and contact me at darah@darahlace.com to let me know which book you'd like and the preferred format.
