Describing Ladyville...Tips for the Discriminating Smut Author #eroticromance #authorhelp

Well, I'm slipping or I've been pretty happy because I had to go way back into July to find something to post. For those new to this form of torture, I take a FB rant and discuss it here on my blog. Today we're talking about some body parts.

The post:

Dear authors,

An aureole is: a circle of light or brightness surrounding something, especially as depicted in art around the head or body of a person represented as holy.

FYI, It's not a sexy body part.

Love, Mia.

My cover model for Just Ask
is not a lady, but he has nice areolas!

The Discussion...

I write erotic romance, which contains several body parts that are often used (hopefully quite vigorously.) I've seen aureole used several times instead of areola. It could be because Word will tag areola as incorrect and doesn't tag aureole as incorrect. So perhaps they think they're doing it all wrong. No one wants wrong boobs, be they man boobs or lady boobs. But aureole is all sorts of wrong, so go to your spell check and add AREOLA right this moment.

Other Parts to Discuss...

While I'm on a rant, let's talk about things I DO NOT WANT TO READ when it comes to getting down with the lady parts.

1) Suckling, suckle, suckled. The definition of this is: To feed (a baby or young animal) from the breast or teat. It's just not erotic despite the hero being 6' 2" of hot hunk doing the suckling. If he's suckling on red aureoles, I'm chucking your book. My children killed my sex life. I don't need to be reminded of that while reading your sexy book. It makes me all sorts of crabby.

2) Womb. I know we just dropped down to the other section of Ladyville, but this begs discussion. In no way, shape, or form does a womb have a place in smut. Because...
  • The womb is the uterus and again, the uterus is for babies. I had babies in my uterus for eighteen months (two pregnancies) and now that I am fixed, my uterus is a source of anger. Do not get me started on how men own the world, ruling the tampon and feminine napkin organization. If a man had to bleed out of his fixed dick every month he'd spend all of his time and energy to make it not happen, and you bet it would be safe and effective. ::grumble::
  • There's no way a man is going to be using his massive tool on a uterus unless you read/write those massive dick erotica stories where the cervix opens like a garage door to allow that massive beast of a cock entrance to the forbidden womb. Yes, it's a sub-genre of erotica, and to each his/her own thing. My coochie clenches painfully at the thought.
  • There could be contact with the cervix but I don't want to think about that, either. Cervix is clinical and the only time I think about my cervix is when Dr. Young is doing a pap smear and scraping cells off of the poor little thing, or during my period when my cervix is cramping to allow for bodily maintenance I don't need.
3) Snatch. The definition is to grab quickly. Ladyville deserves some respect and a leisurely fingering, not a grab and grope. There are enough things to call it without going to porn-land.

Thanks for stopping by!

An Angst-filled #MySexySaturday from Alone #eroticromance #MSSAuthor #eroticcravings

The rules for My Sexy Saturday are simple: Post 7 words, 7 lines, or 7 paragraphs of a published work or work in progress that shows something sexy.

This week, I'm spotlighting Alone, soon to be released. There's nothing sexier than a man making a commitment. Below, Marek is making the ultimate risk his life along side of hers to right a wrong.

My Sexy Saturday--seven lines from Alone (Jump book 1)...

“We could die, dissolve into nothing,” Marek warned. “This—right here—could be it for us.”

Skye nodded slowly and cupped his cheek, tracing the line of his firm jaw with her fingertips, committing the warmth of his stubble to her mind forever. “But we’d dissolve together, for a good cause.”

Marek stared into the fire for a long moment, his face conflicted and tortured in the flickering light. He clenched his teeth together on a harsh swallow and finally nodded. “Okay.”

Blurb for Alone (Jump book 1)

What would you give to finally learn the truth?

Skye Bennett senses someone out there knows how she ended up in foster care at age two. Every penny she earns is spent on uncovering her origin, but at twenty-two she still has no answers and is no closer to feeling the connection she craves.

Until one dark night, when a sexy stranger claims he knows the truth about her past and who she is, but he's been waiting for the right time. He has to be wrong, but his words strike a chord deep in her soul, and something slumbering awakens and begs to be heard. The deal he strikes renders Skye breathless. If she spends the weekend with him, he'll reveal the entire truth by six p.m. Sunday night. The only catch—she will be his. Completely.

Marek Young is in grave danger without Skye’s help. Using the truth is a dirty ploy, but he’s afraid of the consequences if he wines her and dines her the old-fashioned way. Once he’s out of danger, he’ll need to convince her to help right a wrong that impacts both their lives.

When six p.m. arrives... Sometimes knowing the truth is more than you bargained for.

To Be Released Winter, 2015

A New #Paranormal #Dystopian Takes Wing! Through The Veil with Christi Snow #kindle

Today I'm excited to feature Christi Snow's latest release, a paranormal dystopian novel with a huge helping of romantic suspense. Through the Veil has a fabulous and imaginative premise unlike anything I've ever read. There are so many unique and interesting features in this world Christi has created, and the romance between Lori and Marcus is touching and breathtaking. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Christi Snow's paranormal dystopian romantic suspense novel.

This book starts an 8-book series in this all new world made up of two societies...the ES, where government and technology rules; and the WS, where society is based upon a respect for the Earth.

The world has changed in the last 18 years and this first novel delves into the changes to both the land and humanity in what used to be the US, before it was split in half by a mysterious Veil.

Amazon buy links:

58 years ago a gorge opened up from Mobile, AL to Quebec City, Canada to split the United States into the Western States (WS) and the Eastern States (ES).

40 years later, a fog rolled in on the WS that they called the Veil. Within twelve hours it formed an impenetrable wall between the two sides.

It’s been 18 years since anyone has known what’s happening on the other side of the Veil.

Now, Lori, an Other, in a desperate attempt at escape from the ES’s torture and experimentation, has crossed the Veil and found a world beyond belief.

Marcus is a Warrior, but when Lori collapses at his feet wounded and exhausted, he knows he has to protect her. But seeing that she’s the first person he’s seen in 18 years without wings, he’s worried about what her appearance means for his people and the world they’ve created since the Veil fell.

Two new societies: one built on a respect for the natural order of nature and the world, the other built on mistrust and corruption. Can they learn to co-exist once again?

As an avid reader her entire life, Christi Snow always dreamed of writing books that brought to others the kind of joy she felt when she read. But...she never did anything about it besides jot down a few ideas and sparse scenes.

When she turned 41, she decided it was time to go after her dream and started writing. Within four months, she'd written over 150,000 words and hasn't stopped since.

She's found her calling by writing about sexy, alpha heroes and smart, tough heroines falling in love and finding their passion. An author of nine novels, she's truly living the dream and loving every minute of it. Her days in her West Texas home are spent reading, writing, and taking care of her husband, two kids, and two cats.

Her tagline is... Passion and adventure on the road to Happily Ever After. She's loving this adventure!

An excerpt from Through the Veil...
Author's note: While there are serious undertones to the story and plot line in the book, there are also moments of fun that I like to include in all my books. This scene below is one of my absolute favorites from the story. I hope you enjoy it too.

He hated the way medicine made him feel a disconnect between his head and body, but what Malcolm said made sense so he relented. “Okay, but no one in this room is allowed to hold anything I say against me.”
Brooklyn gave a gleeful look to Lori which sent a chill down his spine before she said, “Ooh, I like the sound of this. This could be fun.”
Try to keep them from taking advantage of me,” he told Malcolm. He’d tried to reinforce the walls again, but it didn’t help.
“Most men would be begging for two women to take advantage of them.”
He just smiled at Lori. He’d never be able to have another secret again. “Sweetheart, if it was just you, I’d be all for it. It’s Brooklyn I don’t trust.”
“I’ll protect you.”
He groaned as he told Malcolm, “Let’s just get this over with.”
Malcolm nodded and injected the medicine into the vein in his arm. An hour later, Marcus didn’t know which way was up. He knew Malcolm said he’d added 127 stitches into his back and Lori held the place as the most beautiful woman he’d ever laid eyes on.
As Malcolm pulled him into a sitting position, he felt the need to wax poetic once again about her eyes. “Man, have you seen her eyes? They’re so fucking beautiful, like the petals of a lilac bush in the spring. And when she uses her power, they flash with brilliant color like bursts of purple grapes.” He brushed across her cheek, not even wondering about the laughter spilling forth out of those same eyes right now.
She turned to the others. “I see why he didn’t want any drugs now.”
Malcolm shook his head. “Yeah, the big guy has no tolerance whatsoever. Hopefully, tomorrow he won’t remember what a schmuck he was today. Poor guy is whipped.”
“I think it’s kind of sweet…you know, in a slightly pathetic kind of way,” Brooklyn said. Marcus watched as Brooklyn defended him and he nodded with what she said while he petted Lori’s soft hair. It truly felt like gossamer wings.
It took him a moment to realize Brooklyn had just called him pathetic. “Hey!”
Lori reached up and kissed his cheek to distract him. “Don’t worry about it. You’re really very sweet in a totally manly kind of way.”
He smiled at her. “And that’s why I like you best.” He started to scowl at the other two laughing at his expense, but he got distracted by the fact that Lori still wore her swimsuit wrap top. He started to reach up to hold her breasts as he said, “Well it’s that and your breasts are the perfect size. Your nipples are the perfect pink…”
She jerked back out of his hold while yelling at him in an outraged voice, “Marcus!”
“What? You liked me touching them just fine at the waterfall.” He looked at her beautiful face and couldn’t figure out why she suddenly looked so flushed and angry.
Brooklyn mumbled to Malcolm, “Damn, I wish I had some way to record this for the other guys to hear.”
Malcolm laughed and Lori looked even more mortified than before.
He didn’t understand what bothered her. “Baby…”
“Don’t you ‘Baby’ me.” She scowled at him again.
She really was beautiful even with that frown on her face. Maybe he needed to cheer her up by finishing what they’d started at the waterfall. But, whoa, wait just a minute. He frowned down at the front of his shorts where there was a definite lack of interest going on. What the hell? He’d been half-hard ever since Lori fell into his arms at the bridge.
His mortified gaze met Malcolm’s.
“What’s wrong?” Malcolm asked.
He waved Malcolm over to him and then turned them away from the girls for a guy pow-wow.  “Mal, I don’t have an erection,” he whispered urgently, but it must not have been quiet enough because he heard Brooklyn snicker.
Malcolm frowned at him confused. “Um, okay? I wouldn’t really expect you to have one right now.”
He didn’t understand. This was serious. “No, I always have one when Lori is around.”
This time Brooklyn didn’t even try to quiet her loud laugh. “It is so unfair that this falls under patient confidentiality.”
He turned to glare at her, but became distracted by Lori’s sweet indulgent smile. She was so beautiful. He looked down. Again…nothing. He turned a desperate look to Malcolm to find him grinning like he found this funny. That shit was not acceptable. “You think this is funny?” he asked incredulously.
“Well, maybe a little, but Marcus, you’re fine. It’s just the medicine. It’s deadened your nerves. All of them. Don’t worry. It will be back.”
He turned back to Lori and gave her thumbs up. “Did you hear that, Baby? I’ll be fine.”
He could see the corners of her mouth quirking up like she fought a smile. “I never had any doubt.”
He turned back to Malcolm and grinned. “I impressed her with my big sword.”
Malcolm groaned and tugged Marcus over to Lori. “Let’s get you home big guy, before this gets any more embarrassing for all of us. The rest of us don’t have the luxury of drugs to wipe our memories of this encounter.”

He arranges for her to be his weekend sub but soon realizes the pretty scullery maid is naïve to the BDSM lifestyle. As her prince and her Dom, he intends to not only learn the truth but to make sure she has a fantasy come true.

Enjoy an excerpt:

“Don’t move.” His voice was hard, demanding obedience.

Frowning, Jaimie watched as he put the quilt down and crawled under a couple bushes that formed an arch. He backed out and held out his hand. Jaimie could barely make out his features as he’d turned off his light. Nervous and a bit scared, she took it.

“Crawl forward.”

“There are no bugs or spiders, I hope. Or any creepy-crawlies.” She eyed the dark tunnel as she got onto her hands and knees, holding her skirt so she could crawl forward.

“Maybe a horny animal or two,” he said, following her.

Jaimie snorted but crept forward to the edge of the quilt.

“Far enough,” he said. “Lie flat,” he whispered, his mouth near her ear.

She lowered herself onto her belly. Her prince slid over her, his knees splayed on either side of her hips. He lowered himself. His elbows were next to her arms which were partially beneath her.

“What are we doing?” His scent enveloped her, and his warmth spread out along her body, turning her on even though she was unsure of what was happening.

“Just watch.”

“Watch wha—” The stillness was shattered by yet another scream. Jaimie blinked when soft light suddenly glowed from the trees. The darkness before her was suddenly transformed. Small twinkling lights, thousands of them, winked like stars. From one tree branch, a large, yellowish-white globe blazed, as though the moon had fallen from the sky to highlight a grassy area about the size of a small pool. It was surrounded by thick bushes and trees.

The screams continued, sounding close. Her gaze darted around, searching for the source. Then, to her shock, a woman burst into the clearing.

“Help! The wolf is after me! Help me! Someone help me!”

Jaimie’s jaw dropped as she stared at her friend . She wore her red cloak, a short red skirt, and a very low cut blouse. “Luc—” His hand over her mouth tightened. “Be quiet. No noise.”

Sydney St. Claire is the pseudonym of Susan Edwards, author of 14 Historical Native American/Western/Paranormal romances and the author of the popular "White" Series. During her career, she has been nominated for the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award for Western Historical and Reviewer's Choice Best Book Award.

Sydney loves writing and sharing stories of love, happiness and dreams come true with her readers. She credits her mother for her writing as she was encouraged to read as a child and preferred happy endings which meant romances were her favorite genre. When the writing bug bit, she followed the sensible advice to “write what you know” and has been writing and publishing her stories since!

Sydney takes her readers into the world of erotica romance where her characters come together in explosive passion as they solve life's problems and find true love along with the best sex our hero and heroine have ever experienced.

Sydney resides in California. Her office is quite crowded with two small dogs at her feet, another huge girl in her recliner and five cats to keep her company while she writes. Three cats always insist on beds on her desk, barely leaving enough room for her monitor and keyboard. Life gets fun when all five insist on supervising...

When not writing, she enjoys crafts of all sorts including quilting, sewing, cross-stitch and knitting. Knitting and crochet are her current passions. She and her husband of 30 + years are avid gardeners. He takes care of the veggies, and Susan is in charge of the 'pretties'. Her medicine wheel garden is in a contact state of war: flowers vs. weeds. Sadly, right now the weeds are wining...

Camping, fishing, biking and hiking (when not hot) are other outdoor pursuits she and her husband enjoy. She is of course, an avid reader and hates cooking and housework. While writing, she listens to a wide variety of music, including Neil Diamond, Celtic, Native American, New Age, Classical, and mood music (bagpipes and howling wolves drive my family nuts). Her current favorites are Blackmore's Night and David Lanz.

Sex, Sports and Writing... Ryan O'Leary Is In The Hot Seat!

Today we have the handsome and witty Ryan O'Leary guesting in the hot seat! Ryan pens erotic romance for Beau Coup Publishing and often teams up with the gifted Sable Hunter. Ryan is giving away an e-copy of Happy to be Stuck With You

Interview questions for Ryan O’Leary

Quick round:

Coffee, tea or…what’s your vice?
Lately it seems to be shopping. I know, not the manliest thing, but I golf a lot, so I’ve been spending money on hats and golf clothes a lot lately. And shoes. I seem to have filled my closet up with shoes without even realizing it.

Favorite Movie:
Tough one. The first time I saw The Usual Suspects I was glued to the TV. I didn’t want it to end and every time I see it’s on the television I just have to watch it again. I’m a big Fight Club fan though also. Let’s say I’m stranded on a desert island and can only take one movie to watch for the rest of my days, I think it’s going to be The Usual Suspects. But if there’s a girl on the island with me (or 2 or 3 hopefully), I’m bringing Basic Instinct along with me.

Favorite Color: Red…I guess. I’m a pretty patriotic guy. I liek colours.

Favorite book/author:
Chuck Palahniuk probably. I used to read a lot of Stephen King, but after seeing Fight Club, I picked up the book and I’ve read every one of Palahniuks book to date. I’d say Survivor is my favourite book by him. I liek the celebrity obsession angle.

How do you feel about bacon?
Funny thing about that. I love bacon. That is to say, I ‘loved’ bacon. Recently I cut meat out of my diet. The last meat I ate was a 6 inch meatball sub from Subway on July 6th. If I do decide to go back to meat though, you can bet bacon will be my first stop.

Going vegetarian is noble. How about a bacon beer stein???
Useful and you don't have to eat it.

The REAL questions…

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hmmmmm…Well, I’m Ryan. Nice to meet you. What can I say really? I like sports and sex and writing, and not necessarily in that order. I’m a pretty average guy, I just happen to have an awesome hobby. Oh. I’m Canadian also. And no, I don’t say a-boot.

Connect with Ryan on Facebook
What’s under your bed?
Ghosts. Monsters. Dust. And a putter.

What comes first, plot or characters?
Crap. I’m supposed to plan that stuff? I can’t say. I just get an idea for a book and I start writing. I used to get an ending in mind and write towards that, but now I just kinda write. I guess you could say plot, but that’s isn’t the kind of stuff I really think about when I write. Now that I say this out loud, it might be a good idea to think about that kind of stuff. It might make things easier…But what fun would that be?

Pantser, plotter, or hybrid? Tell us about your writing process.
Ummmm. I don’t know what that first one is, so I’ll go with hybrid. I’m not the kind of writer who really thinks things out. I just kinda sit there and mash keys. If I have a direction, I follow it, if not, I make it up as I go. It’s terrifying and fun all at once. Does it smell liek bacon in here?

Oddest thing on your desk?
A grey statue of a woman’s silhouette with a silver chain around it. Both I bought at an auction a few years ago. I planned on selling the chain and keeping the statue, but when I put the chain around the statue, it just looked so damn good that I kept it that way.

What’s your most interesting writing quirk?
Is being a lazy writer a quirk? If not, I’d have to say that I do something unique every time I write a book. I buy something different for each book and keep it near me while I’m writing. I bought a toy gun and a holster for one book and wore it every time I wrote that book. For another book, I bought an old clock at a thrift shop and hung it over my desk. I do that for each book. That’s kinda quirky, right? And I throw back a shot of Jack when a project is complete as a celebration.

What’s your favorite thing about the genre you write in?
Sex. :-) Well, that’s not entirely true. The sex stuff is fun, don’t get me wrong, but it’s the flirting that I enjoy hands down the most. I liek the interactions between the couple. I liek using my male characters to seduce my female characters. That’s what gives me the greatest charge of all.

What is the hardest thing about being an author?
Writing. I don’t write full-time, it’s more of a hobby that I do when I have the time and drive to do it. I’ll be the first to tell people that I don’t have it in me to be a full-time author. I’m a ‘writer’, I do it as a hobby. In my mind, an ‘authour’ is someone who does it for a living. I know authours and man-oh-man, the amount of hours and work they put in every day blows my mind. I couldn’t do it and I respect the hell out of those who do.

What’s the easiest thing about being an author? Not sure. I’ll ask around.

What do you wish someone had asked you for an interview question? Here’s your chance to get the soap box out!
Wow. That’s a tough one. I don’t know. Liek I said above, I’m a pretty average guy. I’m laid back, whatever people want to talk about, I’ll talk about. I’m sure you could find more than one person to dispute this fact, but probably my least favourite topic is myself, so the fewer questions I’m asked, the less I have to talk about me, which is fine with me. Although hockey would be nice to talk about. If someone would ask me why the Leafs suck, I could go on and on.

Tell us about your latest release!
The last book I put out was a co-authouring venture I did with
Sable Hunter. The book is called Thunderbird and it’s the first book in a series titled The Equalizers that we are writing together. The series follows an elite squad of soldiers who come back from Afghanistan. Hang-on. Sable wrote the blurb, so let me share it instead of me messing up the description.

Blurb for Thunderbird (Hell Yeah! Book 13-Equalizers)

Soulmates. Twin souls. Two people destined to be together. Their journey to love is never an easy one, but when they meet – their hearts beat only for one another.

Kyle Chancellor is a hero, an honest to God hero. After winning the Heisman, he turns down a lucrative career as a professional football player to fight in Afghanistan. Not many know he enlisted because his heart was broken. When his time is up, Kyle comes home to form the Equalizers with the members of former Seal Team 7, they band together to fight battles for those who cannot fight for themselves.

Hannah Montenegro is a woman who has sacrificed her life to help her family, never knowing the joys and freedom a young girl should enjoy. She lives in constant fear of being discovered in a country where she has no citizenship and no hope for the future.

But fate has a plan…the night Kyle comes back to Texas, they meet in a bar where he is drowning his sorrows and she is spreading her wings to learn how to fly. From the moment they touch, the heat between them is undeniable. But unfortunate circumstances separate them and neither dares dream they will see one another again.

Kyle is from a powerful Texas family. Because of his work with the Equalizers, his stance on stem-cell research and internet security, he is the only one surprised to find the people of the Lone Star state want him to run for Governor. Many get behind him, including the McCoys. But the one person he wants at his side eludes him.

Hannah is always on his mind. From the beginning their relationship is complicated, but when she comes back into his life, he grabs onto her with both hands. Politics, a sex tape, immigration issues and a baby complicates their pathway to happiness. But Kyle is the Thunderbird and Hannah is his soulmate in the truest sense of the word. Their journey to love is one you’ll never forget.

A modern day Cinderella story with a twist…

There. I’ve found it’s best to just let her handle things. I’ve met some impressive people in my life, I think we all have, but Sable Hunter blows me away every single day. I can’t say enough good things about this woman. Her brains, generosity, drive, kindness, and talents are liek nothing I’ve ever seen in my life. I always tell her I’m in awe of her and I truly am. Sorry. I got off topic there a little bit. I just liek bragging about my awesome friend. What were we talking about? I swear I can smell bacon.
Oh well. About Thunderbird. I just really had a great time with it. It took us awhile to write it, that was mostly my fault and schedules of course, but we managed to get it completed. Wait a minute. Thunderbird wasn’t the last thing I wrote. Sable and I actually co-authoured a 4th of July story as part of a multi-authour release we participated in with a whole host of amazing authours. That book was called Come With Me and it stayed near the top of the holiday best-sellers list on Amazon for quite some time. It might even still be there, I haven’t checked in a while. You know what? This would be an awful lot of erasing and re-typing for me to do to fix this and as we’ve already established, I’m a lazy writer, so let’s just leave this how it is. I will say though, that Come With Me was a blast to write, as I said, we wrote it after we were done Thunderbird. Seriously? You don’t smell that bacon? Anyways. As I was saying. We wrote it after Thunderbird. I talk a lot, don’t I? I’m just realizing that after typing all of this. We wrote Come after we’d written Thunderbird, so we had a better grasp of each other and how we would write together, so Come came along much faster and I can’t speak for her, but I found it much easier to write. So I’ve now discussed 2 books I’ve written with Sable Hunter and the excerpt below will be from a book I wrote on my own. I think I’ll stop now. I’ve completely forgotten the original question. I’ll let your readers make what they will of my inane ramblings.

Excerpt for Happy To Be Stuck With You...

I got into position behind mystery girl as she rooted around in the fridge; a cold beer sounded almost as good to me as finally seeing her eyes.

She turned, startled by my presence and looked up at me. Jesus. I must have had at least a foot and a hundred pounds on her. She was tiny, but didn’t seem delicate. Her eyes were the darkest brown I’d ever seen and I lost myself in them momentarily. Mystery girl offered me a shy smile and smoothed her hair back behind her ear with her free hand before looking down at her feet. I smiled at her and waited a second, letting her decide whether to say hello or not.

But she didn’t say anything and I could feel my face getting warmer when she looked me over. She wasn’t obvious about it. There was no deliberate looking up and down, but she glanced at my shirt for a second and then back up at me.

“Thanks,” I said and took the beer out of her hand.

I unscrewed the cap and took a sip, watching her over the rim of the bottle. She looked dumbstruck.

“This beer is terrible,” I said.

She reached for the bottle. “Then give it back.”

I pulled it away from her. “No.”

There it was; that dumbstruck look on her face returned. This was going to go one of two ways—either I’d crash and burn, or we’d click. If we clicked, this girl was in trouble, because she’d already intrigued me before we’d even met.

“I’ll get you a new one,” she offered.

“But I want this one.”

I wanted to say, ‘Because it’s the first thing both of us touched.’ I wanted to say that in case I never saw her again, I’d still have this bottle to remind me of her. But that seemed a little intense.

I took another sip. The beer was terrible, skunky, but she had her arms crossed over her chest and an expectant look on her face; like she was waiting for an answer to her question.

“You just going to keep staring at me, weirdo?” I said after a long draw from the bottle.

She shook her head and furrowed her brow. “Weirdo? You’re the one drinking skunky beer.”

I liked her even more. I was used to women fumbling their words around me, but this spunky little girl had a spark.

I took another sip and she returned the grin I gave her.

“Taste better the more you drink?” she asked.

“God, no. Worse actually.”

I emptied the bottle with one last gulp.

“Another one?” she asked.

She put one hand on her perfectly formed hip and stuck her palm out to take my empty; the bangles around her arm jingled over the din of the crowd around us. I watched them move back and forth on her slender, tanned wrist. God, it looked kissable.

“Empty, please,” she said, breaking me from my trance.

“I’ll keep it if that’s okay.”

“But I’m the weirdo?”

“Got that drink for me yet?”

She let out an exacerbated huff and retrieved another beer from the fridge.

I took it from her. “Don’t worry, I’ll open it myself.” I unscrewed the cap and tossed it on the counter beside me. “Worst service ever,” I mumbled under my breath and she crossed her arms again.

“You always like this?” She wanted to know.

“Like what?” Another swig.

She balked for a moment, seemingly unsure of what to say next.

Did I have the upper hand?

“So cocky,” she finally said.

How Not To Piss Off Your Peers... Advice for the New Author #authoradvice #amwriting

So today's Dear Author post is aimed at advice for the new author. Yes, we were all new once. Yes, we all wished someone would help us get seen! There are ways to do that, though, and ways NOT to do that. This Dear Author letter was aimed for my Facebook wall audience, but take heed because this message covers anywhere, especially GoodReads.

The Post...
Dear New Authors,

The fastest way to loose assistance from your peers is to spam their wall with your book, page, group, street team info. The fastest way to GAIN assistance? Get out and chat. Introduce yourself as a person, smile, shake hands, share man candy and bacon (well, the last two work for me.)

Love, Mia.

The newbie author just probably blinked and called me evil words because I am so uncaring and unhelpful! But let's break it down. SPAM is something unsolicited and unwanted sent electronically and usually to a large number of people.

I know some new authors are sputtering at this point. But...but... We need to be SEEN! We need to be HEARD! We need HELP!

Let me ask you this first... In the real world, would you market your book using these tactics if they were free?

  • Telemarketing calls at dinner?
  • Sticking notes and advertisements under windshields at the plaza?
  • Mass post card mailings to buy your book?
If you said yes to any of the above and aren't already seeing the golden light of connection I'm offering you at the end of the tunnel... As my Southern friends would say, bless your heart. Good luck with your writing journey. Have a piece of bacon on your way out.

If you said, "NO! Absolutely not. I hate telemarketers, junk mail, and windshield notes! Show me the way, Mia!" Then read on.

If you don't want to SPAM potential readers/buyers/fans/authors who might help you, here's a short list of what NOT to do on any social media platform (Facebook, GoodReads, Twitter...)
  • Don't friend someone and then ask them to like your page, buy your book, vote for you, or anything else that has to do with you as an author or your book.
  • Don't join groups in Facebook or GoodReads and then SPAM the group immediately with your book sale, book like plea, contest, new release, etc.
  • Don't tag anyone on Facebook in book promotion type posts unless you have permission to post things to their Wall.
  • Don't add people to a group on Facebook without their permission.
  • Don't send people a book recommendation for your own book on GoodReads.
  • And though it's your wall, I would avoid posting promotional posts all the time, every time. People get sick of the rolling infomercial.
How to get other authors to help you.
It takes time and effort to build friendships and alliances in the publishing world. If this is your career, then networking is well worth the effort.
  • Do introduce yourself and say thank you. "Hi, I look forward to getting to know you. Thanks for your friendship!"
  • Do comment and like posts, say congratulations on that sale or release, offer condolences for a bad get the picture. Be friendly.
  • Post only to your wall until you get to know people. I only tag people if it's something funny and something I know they'd love. For example, tagging me in hot man candy pics and bacon shots is absolutely okay.
  • Promote your favorite author now and then (because you're a reader, too, right?)
  • Join groups in your genre and interact with readers as a reader. Readers and other authors will take the time to look you up. Trust me on this.
  • Wish people "Happy Birthday." It's easy, it's fun, and you'll get to know people that way.
  • Post about yourself so people get to know you. Even if you use a pen name you can include readers in your daily activities such as your love of bacon or coffee. Oh, that's me. :-D
  • Do interact with authors and readers as appropriate. Try to include everyone and not just your new group of friends.
  • Be nice, be yourself, and be kind.
You guys can have cake for reading this far. You can have some of the bacon from above, too.

Thanks for stopping by!

Shattered Bonds, Book Seven of Wicked Play

Will the doors of The Den close forever?

When the lives and friendships of The Den owners are thrown into chaos, Noah Bakker steps in to deal with the fallout. He hasn't had a sub or participated in a Scene since tragedy changed his life four years ago. But as an investor in the exclusive BDSM club, he can't walk away from the lifestyle completely. As he works to keep the club running, he finds himself drawn to Liv Delcour, the seemingly naïve sister of one of the other owners.

Liv didn't know about the naughty things her friends were up to behind closed doors, but when their secrets become headline news, she's more curious than shocked. As she works with Noah to keep the media at bay, she finds that his dominant strength is more than a little arousing. Soon they're exploring their mutual desires in the most wicked ways.

Liv isn't sure if she can completely submit to Noah the way she thinks he wants her to—and Noah isn't sure he can withstand the pain of falling in love…

New to the Den? Start at the beginning with Bonds of Trust.

Enjoy an excerpt:

“Over here!”

“Back up. Let ’em through!”

The piercing ring of a siren squealed through the air to join the ongoing choir, and cut off the frantic calls before it faded into the distance. An abundance of blue and red lights peppered the cold night with their universal signal for trouble under the blinding spotlights erected around the crash site.

“This way!”

“I need the clamps!”

Chaos surged around Noah as he crouched next to a semiconscious Deklan, who was laid out on a backboard on the edge of the scene. The stench of blood, gas and coolant clouded the area and rode tandem with shouts from the firemen and the medical-filled jargon of the paramedics.

“What the fuck happened?”

He leaned in to catch the slurred words that tumbled from Deklan. Blood leaked through the cloth he held to the man’s head, where a good two-inch gash ran beneath his short hair. He made another scan of the accident and swallowed. His stomach cramped and heaved in a threat to empty itself.

There was too much blood. In the car, on the pavement, covering his friends.

“Stay still.” He braced his free hand on Deklan’s shoulder when the man tried to get up. The first responders had secured Deklan’s neck in a brace, did an injury assessment, then accepted Noah’s offer to stay with Deklan so they could get to the rest of the victims.

“Fuck you,” Deklan mumbled, grimaced and dropped back down. His face was bleach white, eyes hazy with pain and worry. “I need to get to Kendra.”

The desperate edge of panic in his friend’s voice had Noah clearing his throat. “I know.” Shit. He wiped a hand over his mouth and cringed. Too much blood.

Lynda Aicher has always loved to read. It’s a simple fact that has been true since she discovered the words of Judy Blume at the age of ten. After years of weekly travel as a consultant implementing computer software into global companies, she ended her nomadic lifestyle to raise her two children. Now, her imagination is her only limitation on where she can go and her writing lets her escape from the daily duties of being a mom, wife, chauffer, scheduler, cook, teacher, volunteer, cleaner and mediator. If writing wasn’t a priority, it wouldn’t get done.

Sometimes Learning The Truth Is More Than You Bargained For... Alone #paranormal #EroticRomance

In my case, it was the blurb!

I spent part of my day working on a blurb for Alone. This will be book 1 of a new series, and I hope you all like it. This one is m/f with a touch of paranormal, a smack of kink, a smattering of suspense, and a blistering romance. I don't have a cover yet, but I have a little taste of what my hero, Marek, looks like. Enjoy!

Thank you to my editor, Diana Carlile, for suffering as I sent her different versions.

Home is Where the Heat is by Amelia James #eroticromance

Today we have a tour visit for Home is Where the Heat is! Amelia James is giving away two different prizes via Rafflecopter, so stay tuned to see how to win.

Blurb for Home is Where the Heat Is...

The Twisted Mosaic's reader favorite, Claire, has some twisted fun of her own.

Dependable paralegal Claire O'Connor knows the man of her dreams is out there waiting for her, and she's ready for him. Imagine her surprise—and delight—when she discovers not one but two men who lust for her. One adores her; the other challenges her. One makes sense; the other is a gamble.

Despite the family tragedy that shaped his past, JT Luck has only known professional success. His personal life, however, is a failure. He doesn't want a relationship, and while his 'let it ride' attitude keeps most women at a distance, Claire is eager to roll with him.

But when she finds out Kurt Langston, the office's resident computer geek, harbors a secret crush for her, she wonders if he's the safer bet. Kurt doesn't get close to people, and his feelings for Claire make no sense in his carefully ordered life. His unexpected bond with JT pushes him to take chances he never imagined.

Go all-in or go home? Either way, the heat could be more than they can handle.

Excerpt for Home is Where the Heat is...

Claire gasped as the door burst open. JT jumped up and moved in front of her.

A man stood and stared, one hand on the doorknob and the other at his belt buckle. "Oops, sorry." He grinned at JT. "Nice job, man."

"Get out." JT forced the words between his teeth.

The guy backed up and closed the door.

Claire's heart hammered in her chest. Caught! That man had seen JT licking her... he'd seen her spread legs and everything in between. "Oh God." The room spun and JT caught her as she teetered off the counter.

"Are you okay?" He pulled her close.

"I don't know." A stranger had seen her in a most vulnerable position. She should be shocked and appalled, humiliated or embarrassed. But a hint of pride and secret excitement fluttered in her lower abs. She retrieved her discarded panties, and JT helped her tug them over her boots. She pulled her skirt down then turned and splashed cool water on her face while he adjusted his pants. "Holy shit." I'm swearing?

"Yeah." He ran a hand through his tousled hair. "I forgot to lock the door. I'm so sorry."

She shrugged. "I forgot too."

He raised an eyebrow as he studied her face in the mirror.

She glanced down at the counter, trying to hide her eyes from his penetrating gaze.

"You are a bad, bad girl."

More about Amelia James...
I got hooked on trashy romance novels in junior high, but my mom took them away from me, But she couldn’t stop me from daydreaming. After I got married, I wrote some of my naughtier daydreams down and sent them to Playgirl magazine. Two of them got published. I kept daydreaming and writing stories until my dirty stories turned into trashy books.

I live in Colorado, but I’ll always be a loyal Wisconsin Cheesehead. When I’m not lusting after my next bad boy hero, I’m looking for inspiration in sci-fi and action movies, football players, morally ambiguous lawyers, muscle cars, and kick-butt chicks.

You can find me on Facebook, and on Twitter I’m known as Trashy Writer. I call myself a trashy writer because I want my readers to know that I enjoy mindless escapism as much as they do. I’m not out to win a Pulitzer Prize. (But I'm an award-winning finalist in erotica, USA Book News 2012.) I just want to help someone relax and get away from it all for a little while. I write romance, erotica and trash for fun and pleasure.
