Nona Raines Chats about His Kind of Woman! #GBLT

Today we have Nona Raines chatting about her latest release, a transgender erotic romance! This is a new and interesting sub-genre for me since I only have written a few m/m erotic romances. I'm eager to read more about the inspiration behind the book! I hope you are, too. Enjoy!

Kids Will Be Kids?

Bullying has been in the news lately, and I must say that I’m glad to see it’s being taken much more seriously than it once was. When I was a child, there was much more of a “kids will be kids” attitude surrounding it. Bullying was often shrugged off and kids were on their own. If the bullying was physical, children were sometimes urged to fight back. But how does someone fight back against verbal harassment, name-calling, and pure meanness?

Very often children and young people who are seen as “different” are the victims of relentless bullying. Often these young people are gay or transgender. According to The Trevor Project, “LGBT students are three times as likely as non-LGBT students to say that they do not feel safe at school (22% vs. 7%) and 90% of LGBT students (vs. 62% of non-LGBT teens) have been harassed or assaulted during the past year.” In some cases, the results are tragic. There have been heartbreaking incidents of boys and girls taking their own lives because they could see no end in sight to their torment.

In my newest story, His Kind of Woman, the heroine is transgender. Venetia’s a well-adjusted, smart, capable woman who’s moved
beyond the horrible bullying that marred her high-school years. She’s finally living the life she was meant to live. When Roy Girard shows up at her door, she has no idea that his brother was one of the boys who made her high school years so hellish. Nor does she realize that Roy wants to make amends for his brother’s actions.

Thank goodness parents, teachers and administrators are now making efforts to be pro-active regarding bullying. From no-tolerance policies to character education programs to school-wide behavioral interventions, adults are now taking this issue seriously. More children will have the support they need.

Blurb for His Kind of Woman:

When Roy Girard went looking for Victor Varrano, he never expected a woman to answer the door. He soon discovers that Victor is now Venetia. Roy's startled, but even more surprised by his attraction to her. As they spend time together, he doesn't want to let her go. But she's sure to dump him when she learns his secret.

Venetia's falling hard and fast for Roy. But when she learns that his brother was the bully who tormented her in high school, she's shattered. She can't wrap her head around the fact that the man who made such amazing love to her could so completely betray her trust.

Excerpt:

He was just being polite, making sure she made it safely to her door, checking to see she wouldn’t dissolve into a puddle of goo after the scene in the cafĂ©. But she had other ideas.

At her door, she took the initiative and kissed him, crushing her breasts to him and practically grinding her lips against his. When she pulled back, she was gasping. “Do you want me?”

He licked his lips, and his eyes narrowed as he peered at her. She read his expression—Where is this coming from?—and knew he wanted to be a gentleman. He didn’t want to take advantage of her in a vulnerable state. The hell with that.

“Do you want me, Roy? Tell me the truth. Because I want you. Right now.” He didn’t need to answer because she felt his hard-on prod her pelvis. She kissed him again and holding on to his belt, pulled him inside her apartment.

After tossing her sweater and purse on the sofa, she turned toward Roy. He was as still and substantial as a mountain, as real, as dependable. She needed his sturdiness now, needed his strength. “You do want me, don’t you? But you’ve been afraid.”

He flushed like a boy being caught with his father’s Playboy.

“It’s all right,” she told him as she began to unbutton her blouse. “I understand. You’re worried.” She slowly undid the rest of the buttons until the front of the blouse fell open. “I say I’m a woman, but I used to have a man’s body. And you wonder—am I really truly who I say I am?” She slipped off the blouse and stood before him in her pale blue bra.

The heat of his gaze seared her as he stared at her breasts. Her nipples prickled. She unsnapped the front closure of her bra and let the straps slide down her arms. Her dark brown nipples jutted straight out at him, needing him to touch them, kiss them. Roy’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and Venetia could swear she heard him swallow hard.

She stood proudly for a moment to let him look at her. She had suffered for this body, not just physically, but emotionally, financially, in every way imaginable. Let her enjoy it now; let him enjoy it too. She basked in his admiration, but as the heat and urgency grew between her legs, Venetia knew it would not be enough.

She kicked off her pumps and shimmied out of her jeans. Now she wore only her lacy blue panties. She loved these panties, loved how sexy and feminine they made her feel, and now she saw how Roy loved them too.

The enormity of the step she was about to take suddenly hit her. Though she tried to steady it, her voice vibrated with fear as she spoke again. No backing down now, no running away. She slipped her thumb into the waistband of her panties. “There won’t be any surprises when I take these off,” she assured him. “My outside matches my inside now. I’m completely a woman in every way.”

As she began to pull the panties down, he stopped her. “Wait.”

She froze and her chest squeezed in disappointment. He didn’t want her?

He approached her, indicating the panties. “I want to do that.”
