An interview with Maxie Gwenoch, VP for International Planning for SNAP, the multinational celebrity gossip magazine.

How did you get to SNAP?

Ever since I was hired at SNAP, the world’s largest, most prestigious celebrity gossip news gathering organization, my days have been...erratic.

I climbed my way up to the lodestar of SNAP by working at other celeb magazines, including Hello!, but none of those prepared me for this job. We have several international bureaus, nightly TV shows and publish seven different editions throughout the world, so travel is always a big part of my job.

What do you like best about your job?
Travel, hanging out with celebs, company perks like the limos and private planes...and, oh, Jean-Louis. Did I mention Jean-Louis?

All around the world? Where do you live now?
SNAP’s headquarters is L.A. That’s the hub for celeb-watching in the U.S., so I have a condo in Santa Monica. But ever since I was mugged by a thug hired by the Huszars, I’ve been living in Europe, mostly in the Baron’s castle in Hungary. Jean-Louis insisted on it. Oh, did I mention Jean-Louis?

The Baron? And a castle?
Well, when I took the job at SNAP I didn’t know that the company was owned by vampires. Five-hundred-year-old vampires from Hungary. The family is headed by Baron Stefan Kandesky and Jean-Louis is second-in-command. Oh, did I mention Jean-Louis?

Jean-Louis?
He’s the art director for SNAP. That’s when he’s not protecting the Kandesky family from the danger of the Huszars, a rival vampire family in Hungary. He is stunningly gorgeous, urbane and sexy with the deepest violet, almost black, eyes. And he’s my lover and he wants to turn me and marry me. But I can’t give up my SoCal addiction to sunshine, so I’m living a weird modified vampire (or celebrity) life.

What’s next for you?
Living with vampires and leading a hectic life with them is always changing. Right now, Jean-Louis and I are living in Kiev, getting an Eastern European bureau of SNAP off the ground. We thought we’d co-opted the Huszars and brought them to work in the Kandesky Family Holdings, but then we discovered that Leonid, one of the Huszar leaders, got away after a raid and headed for Ukraine. Now we’ve heard that he may be hiding in Chernobyl...which is too close to Kiev for comfort. He hates Jean-Louis and will use me in any way to hurt him, preferably getting rid of him.

So my days are SNAP business and my nights are planning for another skirmish. Well, not all night. That’s when Jean-Louis is at his best and why he’s so irresistible. I adore him, I can’t get enough of him, but I’m not ready to become a vampire for him. I don’t know what’s next. We might head to Moscow to open another SNAP bureau. I do know I’d follow Jean-Louis to any place on Earth.

What's the Kandesky Vampire Series about? Here's the blurb for book one to get you excited!

SNAP: The World Unfolds (link is to Amazon)

SNAP, a multinational celeb TV show and magazine, is the holy grail for Maxie Gwenoch. When she snags the job as managing editor, she's looking for fame, fortune and Jimmy Choos. What she finds is a media empire owned by Baron Kandesky and his family. A family of vampires. They're European, urbane, wealthy and mesmerizing. And when she meets Jean-Louis, vampire and co-worker, she's a goner.

The Kandesky vampire family rose in Hungary centuries ago. They gave up violence and killing to make a killing on the world's commodities markets and with that beginning they built SNAP, an international celebrity multimedia empire. Now cultured...and having found food substitutes for killing...they’ve cornered the world market for celebrity and gossip journalism.

They haven't fully left the past behind. Their Hungarian neighbors and rival vampire clan, the Huszars are starting to ramp up attacks, maybe looking to start a war to take over all the Kandeskys have built.

Maxie believes she's found her ultimate career. She doesn't realize that she's found a family feud like none other, a centuries-old rivalry between vampire families, with her as the linchpin. Bells ring with Jean-Louis, but she doesn’t realize they’re alarm sirens until she learns that Jean-Louis is second in command of the Kandeskys...but by then it's too late.
